I re-visited the Wang Wauk State Forest near Forster about a year ago, for the first time since I was about 12. It’s a beautiful rainforest just off the Pacific Highway that features some great forest walks, with bridges and water crossings throughout. Last time I came here the creeks were bone dry so I decided not to return until we had some good rain.
After we received some torrential rain I was certain this spot would be in full swing, with the creeks having been replenished with tons of water. Upon arrival we could hear the roar of the fast-flowing water in the creek and knew we were in for a great adventure.
Traversing the track that weaves through the forest, the decision was made to divert from the track and walk the length of the creek, a decision that proved to be slow moving, leech infested and wet… the gumboots ended up filling up with water.
We found some fantastic cascades throughout the rainforest as we went off-track and traversed the creek itself. One of the waterfalls/cascades we found we decided to name “Staghorn Falls”, due to the large amount of Staghorn Ferns in the immediate area. Check out the pics below.
