Photo Description
Catherine Hill Bay, Lake Macquarie NSW.
Landscape photos of Catherine Hill Bay jetty are a dime a dozen, but how often do you see photos taken here on a beautiful day with clear blue skies!?
I spent an Autumn day exploring and searching around the old coal loading jetty at Catherine Hill Bay recently. Starting out early in the morning, I arrived to check out the conditions of the swell and tide, hoping it was at a low point where I could really get in among the rocks and check out all the old chains and anchor points left behind from its old working days as a coal mining region.
The place takes on a whole new feel for landscape photography during the day time, with the beautiful mossy greens and deep yellow/red tones in the rocks really coming out under a cloudless sky and painting a beautiful picture for all to see. It was quite busy this particular day, so I had to time my photographs in between all the tourists that had also come for the day to check it out, making sure I wasn’t photographing someone by accident – it is “landscape” photography after all!
A few hours passed by, at which stage I had collected a decent amount of photographs that (I hope) help show the beauty of this small coastal town has to offer. It’s not so much the “sleepy” little town these days after a huge development went ahead a few years back, which has created a housing estate at the southern end of the town. It’s a little more busier but, still a beautiful place to explore on a day off.
