Photo Description
Buderim Falls, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
Buderim Falls (or Serenity Falls) is without a doubt the most picturesque, beautiful and aesthetically pleasing waterfall I’ve ever come across. There’s nothing negative I could say about it; it’s found via a super-easy 600m walk so very close to the car park, has a high foot-bridge that arches over the creek giving a beautiful view down onto it, you can walk behind it, in front of it or stand under it for a natural shower, and the boardwalks that take you alongside the rest of the creek are excellent.
We had some torrential rain for a few days in a row recently and I hadn’t had a chance to check out this place just yet. It’s an hour and a half from my house at the time and to avoid the crowds I wanted to get there early, so I left home at 4:30am, grabbed a coffee from the nearby service station and got there not long after 6am, just as it was getting light. I was surprised I wasn’t the first one here; there was another photographer doing a fashion shoot at the waterfall so I stayed out of their way until they’d finished. After they’d left it was just me and the waterfall, the roaring sound of the waterfall echoing all around in the gully.
It can easily be overwhelming when visiting a magical location like Buderim Falls for the first time, so for this reason I like to watch it and soak it in for about 10 minutes; I just look around for compositions, what I like, what I don’t like about the area, any distracting objects etc. In total I ended up spending about 5 hours photographing, firstly of this enchanting waterfall for at least 2 hours, getting a range of different photographs from landscapes, panoramas, photos from in front of the falls and behind, and then shooting multiple other cascades down stream, finally returning to the car park around 11:30-12 as it had begun to get really crowded.
